How Much YouTube Paid Me VS. Other YouTubers for 1,000,000+ Views Video

So how much money do YouTubers make for their videos? I'll show you how much YouTube paid me and several other YouTubers for a video with over 1,000,000 views. (hint: it's all over the place, and the TOP earning video I found is ridiculous). There IS a pattern between those who earn a lot, and the videos that earn a little. See if you can spot the pattern.

Also, I'll be sharing how this money compares to other revenues streams that I have outside of the YouTube space. (9:28)

Welcome to ACCOUNT(ABILITY) with Pat Flynn 🙂

Hey Patt, I’m getting started with YouTube channels and podcasts about real estate and restaurants (not very glamorous topics)… realistically how much money could be made in the first year assuming working hard and smart?

    • Pat Flynn January 7, 2020 at 9:09 pm #

That’s a touch question to answer. I saw a channel that started 3 weeks ago that already has over 50,000 subscribers (it’s about Stocks and Tesla), and I’ve seen channels that have been up for YEARS with less than 1000. It really depends on if you hit on the right topics, nail your thumbnails and hooks at the start of your videos, and give people a reason to watch all the way through. That’ll help with the YouTube stuff, but beyond that, as you likely know (and I talk about at the end of this video around the 9 minute mark, there are other ways to generate an income outside of here. That’s where I’d start focusing earlier on so you can serve others and get paid in return for that, sooner.

I wonder if there’s something related to the ad targeting. Like the more specific a video is, the better YouTube can pair a more relevant ad to the video? That may explain why the Facebook Ads video generated so much revenue

Random question, but what camera are you using in this video? It looks great! As always, I love how transparent you are with your audience! Thanks man!

Thanks! Canon EOS R with a 20mm lens, and an Aputure 120dII light. The LIGHT really makes a huge difference. Thanks Ben!

@Pat Flynn Awesome! Thanks, Pat! Do you have a kit affiliate link for the camera, lens, and light? I’ve been thinking about going with the Canon EOS R and I think you just sold me! 😉

I think the revenue issue has to do with the demographics of the viewing audience. Entrepreneur and business based ones have a target audience that probably has a decent income level that advertisers want to get in front of. Compared to the lifestyle or beauty vlogs where the viewer could be a teenager aka not a good target for advertisers due to their lack of income. Lexus would probably get ads for a business video, but they’re not going to target a makeup tutorial etc.

This was fun. I’m invested in stocks and have had a blast with those.

200+ videos posted on my channel and just 1 video with over 100k views. If this video shows anything is that it takes work and patience.

Great video Pat! Subscribed. As for the reason for more/less revenue via AdSense on YouTube it seems to me to be a combination of a video topic that currently has active advertisers that pair closely with it thus getting viewers who are more in tune with the subject matter. On top of that a competitive video topic that lends itself to an advertiser selling a higher end product. This could lead to the advertiser spending more money for the ad (competitive topic) because they have the revenue to do so (higher end product – or cheap front end with a big backend). Assuming that you can bust through to a higher number of views on the video with the above mentioned traits higher revenue numbers are sure to follow. Or not.

I believe on YouTube what matters the most for a video becomes profitable is the quality of the audience watching it and engaging with the ads.

When you talk about business, tools and etc. Google can provide better ads related to those people watching the video, such as online and innovative tools for the professionals.

That’s why YouTube can pay more for video with even fewer views than others.

Because it depends on how many ads you add to your video timeline. Some people (like Roberto) will drop 10 adverts on their video timeline and some only 2. Also it depends on if you are hosting display ads or inlay videos on the video (inlays pay more). Plus keyword bid prices affect it too, finance and make money at home ads pay more. Payment is also affected by whether they are cost per click adverts or Cost per Action which may pay more.

I think some of the business / product videos will have larger companies requesting their ads be playing during those videos. They will probably want to bid more for ads on there so the creator will get more.

Business, how-to, and finance videos seem to be the biggest earners out there. Thank you for sharing all your streams.

Saw roberto blake retweet this and i had to watch!

    This was really helpful!

I knew affiliate marketing was a good idea but compared to ad revenue on youtube… I’ll stick to affiliate marketing

Yeah it’s weird how videos can suddenly go viral…I had it happen recently with a video that I posted 4 years ago all of a sudden went viral and got over 100,000 views out of nowhere!
