One Response to The best thing about failure

In his industry, that’s called “A / B Testing”. Where you are deliberately trying to quickly uncover (and eliminate) ad ideas / campaigns that don’t work.

Literal “prospecting” involves discarding several tons of useless rock, mud, sand. For every diamond or gold nugget you find. Same with Sales “prospecting”.

Famed CEO of old IBM, Thomas Watson, Jr. told his people: “If you want to get to success quicker, make all your mistakes faster.” Because success lies on the other side of failure. Napoleon Hill (author of “Think and Grow Rich”) said: “Every failure, set-back, and frustration contains the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” Because Nature is Teaching you what works and what doesn’t. Through the inexorable Law of Cause & Effect. Which can NOT lie to you.

Henry Ford taught young Hill: “Failure is simply the opportunity to try again. This time more intelligently.”

So, I favor a wise quotation from LBJ: “Try something. If it doesn’t work, stop doing it. If it does work, do MORE of it.”

Russell, if you read these comments, I have a suggestion. For your next “dotcom” series book, title it “7 Habits of Highly Effective Mormons”. As Stephen Covey was, also. LOL.
