So if you’re still pretty new to doing Podcasts it sounds like you’d be better off just doing the Podcast by itself.

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 4:08 pm #

      Agreed.

  6. Soul Guru October 21, 2020 at 4:08 pm #

What’s your favorite program for editing audio video to upload to YouTube for podcasts?

I’ve been trying to use iMovie but it’s awful

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 4:09 pm #

Screenflow is simple and easy to use, absolutely love it for editing, even if I’m not recording what’s on the screen.

    • Soul Guru October 21, 2020 at 4:53 pm #

@Pat Flynn turtorial on how to make mini clips would be amazzzzzzingly helpful!

  7. Tabitha Nagy October 21, 2020 at 4:14 pm #

Thanks for the tipps! I started my podcast last month where i am interviewing young artists. Its called artistscurrent and available on spotify and a few more Plattforms 🙂 (working on getting it up to apple podcasts)
I am tginking about getting a zoom recorder for my audio since u can use it in multiple ways apparently as a usb microphone for the computer as well! What are your experiences and/or thoughts on the zoom audio recorders?

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 4:17 pm #

Zoom Audio recorders are great. I have both the H4 and the H6 and you can use them as an interface AND a backup at the same time, which is cool. You’ll need an XLR connected mic, and also know it’s another part of the process to worry about and make sure is set correctly, but you shouldn’t have to fiddle with it a ton if that’s going to be your primary setup.

    • Tabitha Nagy October 21, 2020 at 4:55 pm #

@Pat Flynn  @Pat Flynn  thanks for the information 🙂 sounds good! I will check out some xlr mics now 🙂 I m part of the ‘started-with-whatever-was-at-hand’ team and want to take the next step in getting some decent audio gear now 🙂 and your videos are super helpful all around! 🙂

Just getting ready to launch a Podcast. You answered a lot of questions about how to leverage a Podcast into video. THANKS.

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 4:34 pm #

      Great! Glad to hear!

  9. Mark Savant Media October 21, 2020 at 4:29 pm #

This is exactly what I’ve been doing and it’s been powerful in gaining new followers. I’ve been posting full length videos, but ive been considering setting up a second channel for “clips”.

    Great advice Pat!

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 4:34 pm #

Thanks Mark, you’ve done a wonderful job with your podcast and how you’ve repurposed everything!

  10. Triple Gap October 21, 2020 at 5:17 pm #

“Derpy Derp” Anyone else catch this easter egg? Pat, you are great. Thank you for this video.

  11. K MENA October 21, 2020 at 5:40 pm #

How about if I want to go live first? Then….keep the entire broadcast loaded on YouTube, and take out snippets for shorter specific videos? Also, load the full episode plus the snippets on a podcast? Thank you!!!!! Kathleen

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 5:46 pm #

Thanks for bringing this up! The issue with going live first is that for both the reply viewer, and the replay listener, any interaction with the live audience can potentially make them feel left out. As you know, proper engagement in lives often feel casual and are cool when it’s in real-time, but in a replay, it’s not as engaging. That’s not to say this cannot be done, or parts of the live stream can’t be taken out and used (I highly recommend that by the way), but for a full episode, it’s going to be tough to optimize for all three (live, video recording, and audio podcast).

    • K MENA October 21, 2020 at 6:09 pm #

@Pat Flynn Thanks! Separating parts of it out is key it seems…such as interviews or people calling in.

  12. Paul Jamison October 21, 2020 at 5:50 pm #

Great insights! Thanks, Green Industry Podcast

  13. Nolan Ray October 21, 2020 at 5:56 pm #

Thanks for the advice. My cousin and I recently started a podcast this season ” The Fantasy Football Bandwagon” This video helped change my mind about just uploading the boring video. I will take this advice and apply it to my next podcast. Thanks very much. Also how do you feel about just using the record feature on Zoom? It records the audio and video but Is there a better way to do this over a video call?

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 6:07 pm #

Zoom will work and is “good enough” for a shorter video uploaded to YouTube, but if you have a co host instead of a guest, you could both record on your camera too for better resolution.

  14. Spanish and Go October 21, 2020 at 6:02 pm #

Hey Pat! Loved the tips. This definitely gets us thinking about how to better utilize our podcast for YouTube. We’ve thought about creating a separate channel for the podcast (Learn Spanish and Go), but sharing some video clips with select guests might be the better option on our main channel. Cheers! -Jim

    • Pat Flynn October 21, 2020 at 6:08 pm #

A separate channel could work for the full version. Thomas Frank does this for his main show, it won’t hurt but it’s an additional channel to pay attention to and manage which could add up to more time that could potentially be spent elsewhere.

    • Spanish and Go October 21, 2020 at 6:51 pm #

@Pat Flynn Thanks for the reply! I dig Thomas’s work. I’ll have to check out his podcast channel for inspiration.
