For the 40 Million People Who Recently Lost Their Job

You've recently lost your job. I know how you feel, because I've been there before, too.

In 2008, I lost my job due to the great recession – a dream job that I absolutely loved, that I was ready to dedicate 40+ years of my life to, and I couldn't imagine living without. I begged and pleaded to get hired, and thankfully, I never was.

Yes, I said thankfully.

You see, getting laid off, although I didn't know it, was honestly the best thing to ever happen to me. It completely opened my eyes to what it really meant to take control, and to focus on opportunities that were ahead of me that were there all along, I just never had the time to see them, and if I did, I wouldn't have had the time to act on them.

Since getting laid off, I started multiple businesses, from an app company that generated over $1 million in earnings, to several smaller side businesses that earned a couple thousand dollars a month (which have since been sold), to inventing a physical product that's for sale on Amazon and other retail stores, to writing books, keynoting on stages all around the world, and most of all – and most important – having more freedom with my time in my life so that I can support my family not just with money, but with time and presence.

In this video, I wanted to unveil the great opportunity that's right in front of you. There WILL be a new normal – this we all know – but where you end up has nothing to do with what has happened to you, and everything to do with how you handle it and where you go from here.

I hope this video inspires you, and if you'd like more information about where to go next from here, including how to take some skills you may have and begin to freelance, to how to start an online business, and also a number of my books and courses that I've made freely available during the pandemic, then click on the link below:

You got this. We're in this together.

My entertainment / speaking business is on hold. It’s crazy. This is the first time since I quit my / let go of my full-time job back in 1993 where something like this has happened. Surgeries, illness, storms, etc. never set me back like this. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Thanks for inspiring us to look for the silver lining. I love your ending sentiments where you acknowledge that times are tough but encourage us to turn our attention away from what we can’t control to what we can control. You also touched the heart of what makes this so difficult by acknowledging the pain of feeling tossed aside but reminding us that we’re meant for so much more and have so much more to give. Thanks for what you give and for inspiring us with your real-life example of what’s possible in the future.

The Income Stream is real. Ideas turn to positive vibes which then turn into action. It’s not easy, but that too is a good thing.

Sometimes I feel like that guy in the Will Smith movie, the one where he had to sleep in the public bathroom with his kid. It’s scary to put your marbles into an online business. By the way, there’s a scene in my novel Dutch Coffee Shop where Jari drives the Delorean from Back to the Future. Jari’s brother has just died, and he wishes the vehicle had a flux capacitor to bring him back in time. Kudos to all you do, brother.

Speaking of architecture, I just started drawing house plans again as I love designing and it doesn’t even feel like work to me. I plan to eventually sell them online but I love making them regardless and can even use them in a portfolio if I need a new day job.
