Getting your podcast feed in order is a crucial step before launching your show to the world. *** Download my free Podcast Cheat Sheet:
When it comes to creating your podcast, few things are more exciting than publishing your first episode! That’s exactly what I’m going to help you do in this video.
I’ll walk you through how to set up your feed properly so it’s ready to share with directories such as iTunes (which we’ll go over in video 6).
To do this you’ll need a podcasting plugin. The one I love is PowerPress, which works on WordPress sites.
In this video, we’ll set up PowerPress, then tweak your iTunes feed settings so that your feed all the right metadata for people to find it. Then we’ll publish your first episode in WordPress!
Finally, I’ll show you how to validate your feed so you know it’s ready to be shared with iTunes and other podcasting directories.
This is the fifth in a series of 6 podcasting tutorial videos to help you get your podcast up and running, so make sure to watch the first 4 videos if you haven't already!

So pat, do I need to publish my podcasts within my wordpress blog in order for itunes to update as well? Even though all podcasts are published in libsyn???
Thanks Pat. I have recently started podcasting and was getting a bit confused with the powerpress settings. Think I’m there now will just watch your final episode as I think I might also have made a mistake in submitting my feed to iTunes.
I tried this and there is no Default Media URL on my Powerpress plugin.
hey why my wordpress have no plugins section
Where is the rest of the video? Just cuts off after 8 minutes or so.
I DID it!!! Thanks Pat!
Great info, thanks Pat! Quick question, I have a wordpress site and also a weebly site. I find weebly much more user friendly. Do you have any suggestions as to what I would use for weebly?
Pat, I don’t think you addressed how to set the feed to only pull ‘podcast’ category. My podcast feed in Blubrry is my main site feed.
Hey thanks Pat … Im in mid length of this video and it almost 6 am I haven’t slept as I am devouring your site and videos lol. You are a blessing Truly .
I followed these instructions, but found that wordpress does not have a “plugins” section where you can manually add plugins…I found wordpress’s podcasting tutorial which directs me to use Feedburner…so I’m a bit confused
Very helpful!! Thank you! One thing I have found is that despite setting all the settings in Power Press correctly, it is also VITAL to fill in your Libsyn account details and episode summaries correctly, otherwise it won’t carry through to iTunes.
when i go to wordpress . com and go to my blog’s dashboard. i see all the other tabs but not the plugins one
Super helpful! I really appreciate all that you do.
Pat, it’s definitely one of the best tutorial series ever. With your help I got started in Podcasting!!! Thanks so much
What kind of whiteboard program do you use?
Pat what tablet and app did you use for this tutorial?
Sooooo complicated! Also, don’t you have to pay monthly for the plugins on WordPress? That’s a lot of monthly payments to be making… I’m willing to do that of course, but is there no other option from WordPress that would be suitable for your website?
@Battle Axe Films That might be the case with wordpress.com. If you download WordPress and install it on another host it’s free.
@Daniel Abendroth Download it eh? I’ll have to have a look into that. So it’s free to download and use?
Yeah. You’ll only have to pay for hosting and a domain if you want. There are free hosting options like 000webhost.com and godaddy.com has domains for .99.
@Daniel Abendroth So you can use the “website”.wordpress.com url if you want? You don’t have to go with “website”.com or .net etc? I’ll probably get that eventually, just wondering if I can get an early start with it or not.
If you use WordPress.com you can’t add the plugins he discussed. You have to download a copy from WordPress.org
Hi Pat – thanks so much for another great video – my question: this was done 2012 – do you still recommend Libsyn and Powerpress?
It’s 2018 does anyone know if he uses other strategies?
I use Weebly to host my website, can’t seem to install powerpress.
Yes, I am stuck with that too
I’ve switched from WordPress to Kajabi. Now what? Just configure Libsyn and install code inside Kajabi?
