Podcasting Tutorial – Video 4: Web and Media Hosting

Your podcast needs a place to live! Today is all about finding the right web and media hosting. *** Take my Power-Up Podcasting course: .

In this video, we’ll cover everything you need to know about web hosting and media hosting for your podcast. I’ll help you understand why it's important to host your .mp3s for your podcast on a server other than your website's server.

You have some choices when it comes to a media host for your mp3 files, and I’ll cover the pros and cons of a couple of the main ones: Libsyn and Amazon S3. Then we’ll go over how to upload your episodes to your media host.

At the end you’ll have a clear picture of how your website, web host, and media host all connect to produce your podcast feed—the thing that lets people access your awesome podcast via apps like iTunes, Stitcher, and others.

This’ll put you in great shape to set up your feed and submit it so your podcast can go live!

This is the fourth in a series of 6 podcasting tutorial videos to help you get your podcast up and running, so make sure to watch the first 3 videos if you haven't already!

Note: The Zune podcast service was discontinued as of November 2015.

Oh, and if you don’t want to use Photoshop for the “whiteboard” background or can’t afford it, then try Desktop Curtain. It will show any background image and can hide all icons on the desktop.

oh, so you took a snapshot of that ScreenImage and imported into PS? Then took that PS canvas into your recording area of Screenflow?

You can use wordpress’s CMS and host it on your own server, which gives you full control but the ease of using their CMS. And thanks for the video – very helpful 🙂

Hey Pat, I’m working on setting up my Libsyn account. But I’m wondering, did you change any of the settings in Libsyn like podcast title, add a description, upload the podcast artwork, etc.? Or is that not relevant for the feed that shows up in iTunes, all that comes from Powerpress, right?

Thanks, Pat, for the video! I’m still using Talkshoe “FOR NOW”, but Bluehost for my WordPress org self hosting (per your recommendation). I will always order from your affiliate links, it is a small way to help pay you back for all your awesome help!

would dropbox work as a media host?

  14. Anthony Morlett October 22, 2013 at 2:33 am #

I wonder the same thing I will try it

  15. Anna B. October 22, 2013 at 3:26 am #

I found out it does. HOWEVER, it has to be a public folder. Google Dropbox public folders and you should find a link to sign in and then create one. Then upload your mp3 to that folder and copy that link to add to your blogpost.
