"Go get a real job." "Quit playing around." "You're going to fail." 😔 Imagine trying to start a business and be an entrepreneur while hearing this kind of talk from your closest family or friends. It can stop you dead in your tracks and could mean the difference between progress, or giving back and going back to something that finally satisfies them.
This is all too common, which is why a recent comment led me to film this video for you, which should help you through some of these extremely tough moments in our entrepreneurial journey.
Let's talk about it.

These people are only bringing you down. They don’t understand what’s best for you so there’s no reason to listen to them.
Been thinking about starting a small business lately … then this gets reccomended?
Thank You, Almighty YouTube Algorithm.
(And thank you, Pat!)
Really needed this today, Pat. Thanks!
My family has been supportive, except for when it comes to treating online business like “real” work. Since I don’t leave the house and I don’t have a dedicated office they frequently treat my work like it’s just something I’m doing for fun. It’s my biggest hurdle right now.

Pat, you couldn’t have put this video out at a better time for me. I am constantly bombarded from my wife about how im not an entrepreneur because i don’t have a successful business. I keep telling her that just because its not successful ” yet” doesn’t mean im not an entrepreneur. I have failed many start-ups to get to this point but its hard to hear from someone you love that your not what you want to be. Thank you for these 5 tips to keep my spirits up about my dream.
And then there’s also the situation when people think that since you work from home, you can take a break any time to help them with their projects. I’ve seriously considered renting office space just to be more productive with my time.
I love this video, Pat. I think one important source of the criticism stems from people not imagining that someone is capable of succeeding in a particular type of entrepreneurship effort. For example, some people would feel extremely weird and uncomfortable about themselves if someone they know who had a speech impediment most of their life has the audacity to start a YouTube channel and a podcast. Or someone with way less education than them decides to start an education company. We might as well live up to our fullest potential and not give much importance to what those types of people are saying.
Pat, thank you for this! I’ve learned through years of false starts and failures that I must work through my own negative self-talk, before I can deal with others. Action is the best antidote to fear.
Thanks for the reminder, Pat! And congrats on 500! About to listen. 😀
How on earth did you know that this is my life story? Yesterday was exactly 30 years and it’s been EXTREMELY difficult; made more so by family members. They don’t get it, most aren’t capable of getting it and they’ll never get it no matter what. Was reasonably successful for the first 17 years, the last 13 were really hard, stayed focused (against a lot of odds) and profound success is happening right now. Most of my peers are gone or dead (which I had nothing to do with), but interestingly the ones that remain in my industry are really nice people with very good character.
I must say the videos are unbelievable and are subjects that play close to the heart. Hitting it out of the Park…thank you! You are truly inspirational.
Omg. Thank you for this video! Not because it was inspired by my comment but it is exactly what I needed to hear. Made me feel so much better and gave me actionable advice. Thank you Pat
I needed that message! Thank you!
Def digging the entrepreneurial slant. Do it again!
